How many of you knew your neighbor’s names before Corona2020? I didn’t know any. I’ve had more conversations with people that I’ve lived around or passed by every day for years than I can ever remember.
We live in ‘communities’ and are maybe part of some by default. Some, we have made on purpose. But how did we do that? Can we expand that? What effect could more connections like that have?
Here are some resources for inspiration:
A story about some youths in Chicago learning to garden from their elderly neighbor
A video about folks in Houston writing messages to each other with chalk on the sidewalk (the editing is a bit weird but…it’s the thought that counts ;)
This will be an online meeting so no amount of distance is an obstacle. All are welcome to join us on September 27th 11:30 AM, PST. Make sure to RSVP for meeting details.
See you soon.
The Desert Salon is not a class: it rejects the roles of teacher and student. The Desert Salon is radical: it rejects the divisions that the world makes between us based on skin, ableism, sex, gender, or class. Past meetings have discussed things as massive as the the Imperialist White-Supremacist Capitalist Heteropatriarchy and as local as water price changes. Being a radical is not a requirement, but you just might be inspired.
